2008-09 Tryouts

ATTENTION all those interested in becoming a SCU CHEERLEADER!

Tryouts for the 2008-2009 season will be held on Sunday September 28, 2008. We are very excited about the upcoming season!! Please come out and show us your talent!! We are looking for spirited men and women who are athletic, and experienced cheerleaders, gymnasts, and dancers. The following is information you will need on the day of the tryouts:

When: Sunday September 28th 2008

Where: Leavey Center

Time: 9am to 2pm

Attire: Black athletic shorts, sports bra, athletic shoes, and please your hair tied back (either half-up or a full pony, your choice)

    • Who is the Santa Clara Cheer Squad?
    The Santa Clara University Cheer Squad is comprised of 16 undergraduate men and women, currently enrolled at Santa Clara, who are freshman through senior class. The Cheer Squad is dedicated to raising Bronco Spirit on campus by supporting Santa Clara athletic programs and attending department and community events.

    When does the Santa Clara Cheer Squad perform?
    During the fall sports season, the Cheer Squad can be seen at various intercollegiate sporting events on campus including men and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's water polo.

    The most active sports season for the Santa Clara Cheer Squad is in the winter. It attends all men's and women's basketball games, leading the crowd in cheers during the game and at time-outs, as well as, performing at half-time. In March, it travels to the West Coast Conference Tournament and will continue supporting the teams through the post-season when the Broncos advance to the NCAA or NIT tournaments.

    The spring season calls for support at men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball and women's water polo. Additionally, the Cheer Squad will dedicate this time to prepare for the following year.

    What is the Santa Clara Cheer Squad practice schedule?
    The Cheer Squad practices three times a week during fall quarter. Practices are scheduled on Sundays from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. The squad is also responsible for attending assigned intercollegiate sporting events during the quarter.

    During winter quarter, practices are held twice weekly on Sundays from 5-7:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The squad will attend all men and women's basketball games played on Thursday and Saturday nights. The Cheer Squad may be responsible for attending specific Bronco basketball road games, as well as other intercollegiate sporting events and appearances.

    How can students get involved with the Santa Clara Cheer Squad?
    Tryouts for returning students are scheduled during late April, while freshman and transfer students may tryout for the Cheer Squad during the first weekend of school during the Fall quarter. Click here for more details on tryouts.
